| ORION™ DATA
ACQUISITION SYSTEM FOR WIRELINE OPERATIONS |
Orion
for Wireline is a cost effective data acquisition system
for wireline and slickline winch units, typically used
to record, monitor, display and report depth, speed,
weight, tubing pressure and casing pressure. Other
channels may be added as required.
The package
is compact, consisting of a 12 x 10 x 6 NEMA
4x stainless steel control box and sensors.
An intresically safe upgrade is available
for use in zoned environments. An Electronic Memory
Unit (EMU) if fitted standard in the event of PC failure
or as primary storage if
you wish to run the system blind (without a PC).
Orion
for Wireline can be used in conjunction with the Cerberus software,
which models the forces on the wireline in real-time
as the tools are run in and out of the well. Differences
between measured and predicted data may indicate incipient
problems downhole. An intelligent monitor alerts
the user to potential problems and areas of the well
requiring extra caution such as tubing shoes and restrictions. When
used as a job planning tool, Cerberus can
answer questions such as:
- What is the
best weak point selection for the job?
- How much
weight do I need to get down?
- Will the
tools reach TD?
- How fast
can you safely run in hole?
- What should
the surface weight vs. depth be?
- What is the
actual tool depth, correcting for stretch?
- What is the
fluid lift force on the tools?
- What is your
maximum allowable pull?
- Where is
the stuck point in a highly deviated well?
- How much
force will a tractor have to pull to get
to bottom?
- Is there
a risk of drum crush?
- Can the tool
be pumped to bottom?
- What is the
cable head tension?

Grease Injection
Control Option
When grease injection control
is added to the Orion for Wireline, the following additional
channels of data are measured:
- Grease injection pressure
- Grease injection temperature
- Grease return pressure
- Air or hydraulic pressure
to grease injection pump
The Orion for Wireline outputs
a signal to a hydraulic valve which controls the air
or hydraulic pressure which powers the grease injection
pump. The grease injection pump is controlled to maintain
the injection pressure at some specified amount above
the tubing pressure.
Another output signal controls
the hydraulic needle valve on the grease return line,
automatically closing this valve when the grease return
pressure increases significantly. An operator at the
grease injection control skid may manually override this
control system at any time.
Though the Orion for Wireline
uses a PC for displaying, monitoring and recording data,
the grease injection control portion of the system is
not dependent upon the PC. The small control panel can
be used to input the parameters and to operate the system.
