| CERBERUS
for WELL INTERVENTION - EXTENDED REACH WIZARD |
| Previous
Slide | Next Slide | Exit Show
Sometimes it is useful to know whether
you could still perform a particular job if the well is subsequently
drilled deeper, or if it turns out that the well is already deeper
than you had been led to believe. The Extended Reach calculation
projects the well further out on the same trajectory (inclination
and azimuth), and determines how much further it could go and
still be able to get to TD with the same configuration of cable/pipe
and tools.

The result is presented as
a message, as in the following example.

Even if there are no plans
to extend the well, this can still be an interesting
result because it gives some sense of how marginal the
job is. If you could in fact go much further, it gives
you more confidence that you can reach the actual TD
without difficulty. If, on the other hand, it turns out
that the limit is reached just a few hundred feet (or
meters) beyond the current TD, you should look carefully
(using the Sensitivity Wizard) to see if the job feasibility
is more marginal than you had realized.
Note: CTES has plans to add
more features to this calculation in a future release,
allowing more subtle variations in the projected well
path.
